Lactation Cookie Recipe
Recently my milk supply took a minor hit when my first postpartum period happened. My cycle came back with a vengeance and took a toll on my milk supply. I’m still in recovery. I usually average 15-17 ounces a day and I am down to 12-13 ounces daily. I decided to make a batch of lactation cookies. I’ve been making them since I went back to work after having Holden, and have tried many recipes.
Lately, I have been tinkering with my own, and after many attempts and experimenting with different ingredients, I finally have my own recipe. I am actually pretty excited about it, as I’ve never really done anything like this before.
I frequently get questions regarding my favorite lactation cookie recipe, and I usually refer everyone to this recipe here. But, I don’t always have everything that recipe calls for, and I am usually making these on a whim late on a random Thursday night. I wanted an easy recipe that doesn’t require anything too crazy, and will still pack a lactation punch. It has taken me months of trial and error, but here it is, my very own lactation cookie recipe. If you happen to use me as your postpartum doula you can expect a batch of your own as well.
Ingredients:
- 2 1/4 cups of flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 Tbsp Brewer’s Yeast
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 cinnamon
- 1 Tbsp lemon juice (I’m not sure why, but I used it in a recipe once and I think it made them quite moist)
- 3/4 cups brown sugar
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup ground flax seed
- 1 Stick of softened butter
- 2 Eggs
- 1 Tbsp vanilla
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup rasins
- 2 cups chocolate chips
Just dump it all in there together. I will not even pretend like I care if that matters. Preheat your oven to 350 and bake the cookies for 15-18 mins.
You can pretty much make any cookie a lactation cookie if you use brewer’s yeast, flax seed, and oatmeal. Those are the ingredients that aid in lactation. These cookies are pretty decadent, thick, soft and chewy, and I may or may not eat 3 or more a day, but there is no shame in my lactation cookie eating game.
Enjoy!
