Grunge/Punk/Vans Baby Shower Theme
I cannot believe its been 2 YEARS since I had my baby shower for Holden. I was so excited, and will always remember that part of my first pregnancy as one of the best times in my life. It was summer, so I was on break from work (I am a teacher) and I could put 100% of my time into being home and pregnant. It was blissful. My friends and family celebrated with me by throwing my a baby shower. Our pregnancy announcement, along with our engagement photos featured our vans (seen below) we also wore them on our wedding day.
My husband worked at vans when we started dating, so that was the first gift he gave me. A pair of checkered vans. We met two years prior to that at Van’s warped tour, listening to Angels and Airwaves, which would end up being the artist to our wedding song, Breathe. A pair of baby vans also happened to be the first thing we bought for Holden when we found out I was pregnant. Anyway, making my baby shower a punk/skateboard/grunge/vans theme seemed kind of like an ode to our relationship, and Nathan who wore vans religiously, skateboarded, and loves Nirvana. Just wanted to explain the relevance of the theme 😉
My best friend/sister-in-law threw this shower for me, as well as my Baby In Bloom shower I recently had for Waylon. She did a wonderful job hosting it, and this all happened before I was a blogger, so I figured why not feature it in a blog now?
First, there’s the decor: Complete with a mini skateboard, a Van’s onesie to sign, a “punk” banner, Kurt Cobain quote, and marbled balloons. My friends also made an awesome home made body scrub with essential oils as shower gifts for all of the guests.
For food there was basically a buffet of all the foods I had been craving throughout the pregnancy: sour patch, Cinnamon Toast Crunch cupcakes, Oreos, tacos, corn dogs, and cherry cokes! Also a table featuring some pregnancy photos and a “smells like baby spirit” banner! She even made some Nirvana cookies! You can get custom banners on Etsy!
She also had a onesie decorating bar, so everyone could make an onesie for Holden to wear, and a prediction calendar to guess the day he would be born.
There is just something so special and magical about pregnancy, but even more so when it is your first. Coming together with the women in your life to celebrate this miracle is such a fun and important thing to do. I can’t wait to return the favor when my friends decide to become Mommas too!
